First Company Announcement
ProteomTech, Inc. is a biotech start-up company founded by
Dr. Charles Gao and
Dr. Xinli (Henry) Lin in 2001 with
substantial VC investments. This is a proteomics company
utilizing its proprietary, universal refolding technology to
refold/purify and commercialize human proteins and proteins of
therapeutic interest, expressed as inclusion bodies in E.
coli. ProteomTech, Inc., a spin-off from Oklahoma Medical
Research Foundation, holds the pending patent for
high-throughput refolding and purification (HT-REP) of
inclusion bodies titled, "Universal procedure for refolding
recombinant proteins".
Its sole inventor, Dr. Xinli
(Henry) Lin, now ProteomTech뭩 Chief Scientific Officer (CSO),
has developed the HT-REP technology over a fourteen-year
period. The structure of streptokinase/plasmin complex was
solved and published in 1998 in Science using the
proteins Dr. Lin had consistently and successfully refolded
and purified. In addition, Dr. Lin has also successfully
refolded, purified, and solved the structures of Alzheimer뭩
beta-secretase (BACE1). The homologue of BACE1, BACE2, has
also been purified and studied by Dr. Lin. Both BACE1 and
BACE2 enzymes are critical for developing drugs for the
prevention and treatment of Alzheimer뭩 disease. To our best
knowledge, in this competitive field ProteomTech뭩 HT-REP
Technology is the only technology that can purify the E.
coli expressed BACE1 and BACE2. These results have been
published in PNAS and Science. Furthermore, the
human proteins of pro-insulin, POMC, pepsinogen, VEGI
(vascular endothelial growth inhibitor, an anti-angiogenesis
protein with potential anti-carcinogenic properties), as well
as over thirty other proteins, have already been refolded and
purified. Some of these proteins are immediately available for
sale. Indeed, within one month of its operation, ProteomTech
received its first two Purchase Orders from two major
Pharmaceutical companies, both located in the East Coast.
ProteomTech, Inc. will utilize its unique HT-REP
technology in pursuit of the following goals:
- Continue to express and purify BACE1, BACE2, HIV
proteases, human kinases and receptor proteins for research
and commercialization.
- Service contracts for purification of various proteins.
Industrial and academic laboratories can take advantage of our
highly efficient, low cost technology to out-source their
protein purification.
- In the long-term, a protein bank is being established for
sales as reagents, use in drug screening, as therapeutics and
for making high-density micro-array protein chips.
- Using the protein bank as a base, an antibody bank will be
established for sale as reagents, use in drug screening, as
therapeutics and for making high-density micro-array antibody
chips.
