ProteomTech, Inc., a
new biotechnology company specializing in protein refolding,
has developed a "universal"
refolding procedure for purifying proteins expressed in
E. coli as inclusion bodies. The procedure will be used
for high-throughput purification of recombinant human proteins
and other proteins of therapeutic interest for
commercialization. Several directions
have been derived:
- Proteins
as reagents. Purified proteins, such as HIV protease and
human kinases, will be sold as R&D reagents to
industrial and academic labs.
- Service
contracts. Industrial and academic labs may take
advantage of our high-efficiency, low-cost technology to
"out-source" their recombinant protein purification.
- Antibodies.
Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies will be produced for
each purified, native protein.
- Structures.
Recombinant proteins purified from E. coli are the
best sources for structural determination using either X-ray
crystallography or NMR.
- Microarray
Chips. The resulting protein and antibody banks will be
used for manufacturing microarray chips for
commercialization.
