CCSi provides these high quality tungsten carbide knives for Pico Type Abrasion Testers in accordance with ASTM D2228 “Standard Test Method for Rubber ? Abrasion Resistance (Pico Abrader)”, which is located in Volume 09.01 of the Annual Book of ASTM Standards. The knives are manufactured from Carboloy 831, or an equivalent material, and machined to specifications. All surfaces are finely ground, with the beveled surfaces honed to a 4 μm finish. |

The knife edge, or that area which results in an apex of the opposing beveled surfaces, at the time of manufacture (or re?sharpening), has a flat of “... not greater than 10 μm.” The Pico knives are then inspected and carefully paired so that each set is within 0.013 mm (0.0005 in) dimensionally along the 3 major axis. CCSi will soon be providing the following ancillary items required for conducting successful Pico Abrasion testing. ◆SEM (scanning electron microscope) inspection of new and re-sharpened knives. ◆Re-formulated standardized “calibration compounds” which will feature readily obtainable ingredients. These will be offered as IRMs (Industry Reference Materials), a vailable in small quantities for the convenience of those who do not have in-house mixing and curing capabilities or desire to compare an in-house compound to the IRM. ◆Dusting powder both as a pre-mixed (blended, densed and screened) and the component ingredients of diatomacious earth and aluminum oxide. ◆ Carborundum C30LB, or equivalent, abrasion wheels.
