The measurement station consists of the following components:

Granite base plate with manually adjustable measuring stand

Motorised XY stages 50 x 50 mm

Autofocus sensor

All necessary control units and electronics

PC of current design, monitor, colour printer

Operating system Windows NT

Software package for the control of hardware and data acquisition, display and evaluation of the measurement data with all state-of-the-art features (roughness parameter calculation, filtering, zoom, FFT, correlation, profile line extraction of 3D profile, false colour display and many more)

Operation of the tool is menu controlled and very easy. The XY table can be positioned manually by joystick or by entering absolute coordinate values.

The measurement of the surface profile is done automatically by entering the ‚Start’ command. Before that the part has to be put on the moving table and the sensor positioned vertically until the object surface is within the measuring range. This is displayed on the screen. Also the measuring parameters have to be set. The measurement time depends on the number of data points and the structure of the surface. After completion of the measurement the file is displayed on the screen and can be evaluated. The data and evaluated graphs can be exported into ‘Word’ or other software packages.
